الْمُمِيتُ

61. Al-Mumit

The Taker of Life

Meaning of Al-Mumit

The One who ordains death upon the living. Death comes only by His decree, at the appointed time He has determined. He is the ultimate controller over life and death.

Benefits of Reciting Al-Mumit

  • Reflecting on Al-Mumit is a powerful reminder of the temporary nature of this life, which cures heedlessness and encourages preparation for the Hereafter.
  • It helps to reduce the fear of death by understanding it as a decreed transition from the Creator, not a random event.
  • Motivates a person to make the most of their time and to perform good deeds before their appointed time arrives.

Al-Mumit in the Quran

The concept is mentioned many times, e.g., 'And it is He who gives life and causes death...' (23:80).
