الْمُحْيِي

60. Al-Muhyi

The Giver of Life

Meaning of Al-Muhyi

The One who gives life to the lifeless. He is the source of all life, both physical and spiritual. He gives life to the dead earth, to the unborn, and spiritual life to hearts through faith.

Benefits of Reciting Al-Muhyi

  • Instills deep gratitude for the gift of life itself, which is often taken for granted.
  • Reciting 'Ya Muhyi' is a powerful way to ask for a spiritually dead heart to be revived with the light of faith.
  • Provides hope in seemingly 'dead' situations, whether a barren land, a failing project, or a hardened heart, knowing The Giver of Life can revive anything.

Al-Muhyi in the Quran

Mentioned twice in the Quran, and the concept is everywhere, e.g., 'And it is He who gives life and causes death...' (23:80).

How to Make Dua with 'Ya Muhyi'

To call upon Al-Muhyi is to seek life in its truest sense from the only source of life. It is a plea for physical vitality and, more importantly, for spiritual revival.

For a Hardened or Spiritually 'Dead' Heart

"'Ya Muhyi, You are the one who gives life to the dead. Please give life to my heart with the light of Iman and the remembrance of You.'"

For a Barren Land or a Failing Venture

"'Ya Muhyi, just as you give life to the dead earth with rain, please give life to this land/business and make it fruitful.'"

When Reflecting on the Miracle of Life

"'Ya Muhyi, thank you for the gift of life. Help me to use this life in a way that is pleasing to You and earns me a beautiful life in the Hereafter.'"

It is one of the most powerful signs the Quran uses to prove the Resurrection.
